Big Blue is the daddy...

The worldwide server market contracted by 15 per cent during the first quarter of this year, according to figures from Gartner research group. IBM made the greatest gains with its share of the market increasing to 27.8 per cent. Despite its merger with Compaq, HP was not able to topple Big Blue. The combined company now has a 25.7 per cent share. In the UNIX sector of the market Sun held on to its top spot increasing its share by 1.7 per cent to 41 per cent casting a hefty shadow over IBM's significantly smaller 18.5 per cent. In the Linux market, which has grown a staggering 54.7 per cent on the same period last year, IBM is once again the vendor with the greatest market share.
