The latest high-tech company to broaden its push into energy-efficient lighting is Sharp Electronics, which plans to ship a series of LED downlighting, track lighting and recessed troffers in the United States by summer 2012. The move extends Sharp's position in producing LED devices and technologies for more than 40 years.
The new LED products will be manufactured in the company's Memphis-based facility, so that Sharp can focus on delivering these commercial products to North American businesses quickly. The main focus for the offerings will be retail and hospitality companies.
Sharp is positioning the "quality of light" offered by its LED line. It has focused on mimicking the aesthetics, dimming and optical features of less efficient incandescent technologies in its LED line. The lamp life of its new lights is expected to be approximately 50,000 hours of operation.
