The economic downturn has already had an effect on workers in the tech industry, with thousands of jobs already axed as companies try to respond to a colder business environment. But it looks like techies might be better off at a small or medium-sized business than a large enterprise, going by recent research by Forrester.

The research firm asked companies in the US and Europe about their plans to cut headcount this year. A significantly higher percentage of large businesses said they planned to let go of staff, compared with SMEs.

The report also covered plans for taking on more staff, for tech spending and for budget. For more on companies' headcount plans, go to silicon.com for the full story.
