Smarsh acquires AdvisorSquare from Symantec

Smarsh has acquired financial website template service AdvisorSquare from Symantec for an undisclosed sum.

Web and email archiving provider Smarsh said on Monday it has acquired AdvisorSquare from security giant Symantec.

Financial terms of the transaction were not given.

AdvisorSquare provides websites designed specifically for financial experts and service professionals to thousands of businesses since its creation in 1998.

The website template service joins the Smarsh suite of website services --- including design, hosting, archiving, and compliance services --- further bolstering Smarsh's range of financial firm-targeting products.

Smarsh powers close to 7,000 financial websites --- including their associated email domains. It provides hosted solutions for archiving email, instant messages, and social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, allowing companies to maintain and enforce data retention strategies.

Only last month, Smarsh introduced its Web archiving solution enabling organisations to backup, search, and preserve complete websites, including blog posts, wikis, audio and video content, and other content on the Web.

One Twitter user questioned whether Smarsh can "reverse the exodus of AdvisorSquare clients?"

Only time will tell.
