SolarCity expands operations into the East Coast

SolarCity, already the country's largest service provider by volume, has acquired the largest residential solar installation firm in the Northeastern United States.

SolarCity provides financing for residential installations like this one in San Rafael, CA.

The leading solar services company in the United States is expanding its operations to the East Coast with its acquisition of groSolar’s residential solar installation business.

SolarCity announced the transaction today, immediately expanding its operations into Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. It now has a total of 21 operations centers in 10 different states.

Further, SolarCity’s “SolarLease” consumer financing program will become available to customers in the Northeast. The company recently received US$40M in funding from Citi to funds its residential installations.

“SolarCity will be able to offer solar to many homeowners and businesses in the Northeast at or below the cost they currently pay for electricity,” said Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity. “We expect thousands of additional homeowners in the Northeastern states to go solar this year, while local incentives are strong.”

The company is an all-in-one firm, offering design, financing, installation and monitoring services.
