A provider of Internet security solutions and appliances, SonicWall was founded in 1991 as Sonic Systems to develop networking for Apple's Macintosh products.

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, the company now has three business domains--network security, content security and business continuity, which includes products such as firewall hardware devices, Universal Threat Management (UTM), Virtual Private Network (VPN), backup and recovery, as well as antispam/ e-mail and content filtering.

In 2007, SonicWall bought over Seattle, Wash.-based Aventail Corporation, an enterprise SSL VPN remote access solutions provider, for approximately US$25 million.

Recently, the network infrastructure company launched a new engineering and TAC facility in Bangalore, India. With a workforce of some 260 employees, the center will be SonicWall's largest facility outside of the United States.

SonicWall ranks among ZDNet Asia's Top 10 fastest-growing companies for 2008/2009.
