Sony piles on to the ever-expanding world on streaming video players with its new SMP-N200 box, which the company announced would arrive in the U.S. next month. Unlike Apple TV, the Sony device is offering streaming video content in 3D, joining Vudu in offering 3D content to media streamers.

The Sony box otherwise offers similar specs as competing devices, including built-in Wi-Fi, HDMI output and USB input, 1080p HD support, DLNA compatibility, and your choice of streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Slacker, etc.). There's also an app for iPhone and Android smartphones to control the SMP-N200, and there are also legacy component-video and composite-video outputs for older TVs.

Of course, you need a 3D HDTV in order to view the 3D streaming offerings Sony is providing through its Sony 3D Experience part of its Sony Entertainment Network, and the SMP-N200 doesn't include any 3D glasses as part of its $99.99 price. Of course, that puts it at the same price as Apple TV, but does it offer enough to be competitive in this market?
