Sony's Tablet S, Tablet P get official details

Sony is finally letting the lid off of its upcoming tablets, the Tablet S and Tablet P.

Available in mid to late September, the wedge-shaped Tablet S combines a 9.4-inch display with a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. While its design makes the Tablet S a bit bulky on its top end, the tablet's odd shape also makes it easier to hold for long periods of time, as its weight is centered closer to the wrist. Sony is selling the 16GB version of the device for a solid $499 and the 32GB version for $599.

Fewer details were released about the Tablet P, which certainly takes the cake as far as unique design goes. Featuring a pair of 5.5-inch screens, the Tablet P folds closed, allowing it be easily tucked away in a jacket pocket or purse. Users can display different applications on each screen, or, in the case of, say, web browsing, display half of a single app on each display. Unlike the Tablet S, the Tablet P also comes with 4G capability, which likely explains why Sony did not divulge the device's release date and price point. That will be left up to AT&T when the time comes.

Overall both devices act as pretty clear proof that Apple isn't the only tablet manufacturer with good ideas. But at the same time, marketplace success isn't built entirely on ideas, and it remains to be seen whether consumers will take the Sony tablet bait.
