I think that for IP to take off, enterprise network connections need to be plentiful and seamless.
Yesterday, Broadcom took a big step toward making that happen. The chipmaker announced that its Broadcom BCM1113 IP phone chip will be shipped as a standard offering in Toshiba's IPT1020-SD enterprise IP soft phones. The softphones run as a key component of Toshiba's enterprise-targeted Strata CTX system.
The chip, in turn, enables remote users such features as extension-to-extension dialing, paging over telephone speakers, and, of course, voice mail.
