Wollongong start-up and Startmate alumni Grabble has been acquired by US retail giant Walmart, which will see the company's digital receipts technology and team relocate to Silicon Valley.

Co-founders Stuart Argue and Anthony Marcar announced the news today via a statement on their website, and they will join the WalmartLabs team in America.

Grabble sends receipts to customers' phones, avoiding the need to keep track of paper receipts.

Argue and Marcar are excited at the prospect of scaling their vision for shopping smarter, formulated in a garage in Wollongong.

"We're excited about seeing our passion play out on a larger stage, and especially look forward to working with the team at Walmart," the pair said in the statement.

The pair made special mention of the accelerator program Startmate and also 500startups, which has also invested in the technology.
