Storage management generated $5.6 bln in 2004

Storage management software totaled $5.6 bln in 2004, a 12.3% increase attributed to the increasing demand placed on corporations by federal compliance rules, Gartner says. EMC lwas #1, increasing its market share to 29.5% on sales of $1.66 bln. Veritas Software was #2 with 18.5% share on revenues of $1.04 bln. IBM was #3 with 12.2% on sales of $688 mln. Gartner expects the worldwide storage management software market to grow another 12% in 2005, reaching $6.3 bln.
