Symantec investigates 'incident' in enterprise cloud

Symantec's Enterprise, AdvisorMail, and Hosted Exchange customers have not been able to access their accounts for more than 12 hours due to a 'service disruption'.

Symantec's Enterprise is currently down, due to a "service disruption" in one of its US datacentres.

The disruption affects its Enterprise, AdvisorMail, and Hosted Exchange customers. Users are expected to experience connection and availability issues while Symantec troubleshoots the issue.

A Symantec spokesperson has told ZDNet that during routine maintenance, Symantec identified a hardware fault that required emergency repair.

"We are working to resolve the issue swiftly, and are continuing to keep our customers updated on our progress," the company said.

Symantec also said that while system access is temporarily down, the company continues to receive and store all incoming data on all systems.

ZDNet understands that the system has now been down for more than 12 hours.

The Enterprise product is Symantec's cloud-based archiving service that helps businesses store and manage business-critical information.

The company also previously tried to differentiate itself from competitors in the cloud space by launching Norton Zone nearly two years ago. It was a cloud-based file-sharing service that Symantec boasted would enable users to safely access, sync, and share photos, videos, and documents from virtually any of their computers (PC or Mac), as well as Android and iOS devices.
