T-Mobile says goodbye to the Sidekick

Hey, remember when the Sidekick was the coolest cell phone to have? Like, back in 2005? Times have certainly changed, and T-Mobile is moving on by discontinuing the Sidekick today.

Hey, remember when the Sidekick was the coolest cell phone to have? Like, back in 2005? Times have certainly changed, and T-Mobile is moving on by discontinuing the Sidekick today.

According to the Phone Scoop, both the Sidekick LX and Sidekick 2008 will be discontinued on July 2. That means pulled from shelves in stores and online.

The Sidekick brand has had a tumultuous history as of late, especially when it went into exile last year only to be brought back in November. Could the same thing happen this time? It's unlikely, and T-Mobile is probably going to focus on other smartphones from now on. I wonder if the Sidekick will still be popular on the black market after this.

I still remember sitting with a friend of mine in a Berkeley restaurant in the summertime five years ago, as he showed off his brand new Sidekick and all its screen-sliding glory. I was so jealous. And then I read in a tabloid that Paris Hilton bedazzled one, and I got over it. Ah, memories.
