Tableau opens first EU data center in Dublin

Tableau is pushing the data center as a matter of flexibility rather than performance.

Tableau Software has opened a European data center in Dublin as part of an effort to expand the company's presence in the region.

The data center marks Tableau's first in the EU. Tableau will share the collocation facility with other cloud or Internet service providers. The site is backed up by a disaster recovery facility in Munich in case the Dublin center goes down.

Tableau is pushing the data center as a matter of flexibility rather than performance.

"With the opening of our European data centre, we are responding to a desire from customers to choose where they host their data," said James Eiloart, VP of Tableau's European operations.

In September Tableau said it planned to triple its workforce in Ireland to tend to the company's growing customer base outside of the U.S. The company has more than 35,000 customers in more than 150 countries, with half of those accounts located outside the U.S.
