Taiwanese firm claims L2 cache hassles are over

Cache-on-a-stick (COASt) memory is leaving incompatibility hassles behind, according to makers.

Eurom, the UK agent for Taiwanese L2 cache maker EtronTech, claims its new COASt 3.0 products will provide compatibility with all system designs that meet the 3.0 specifcation. The devices are available in 256Kb and 512Kb capacities and operate at 6ns or 7ns speeds. A 3.0 'lite' implementation will also be compatible with previous system designs, the firm said. Eurom expects to sell to current customers such as Dell and Elonex, as well as to the aftermarket for end-users upgrading systems.

Separately, the firm said it expects shortly to offer 8Mb synchronous graphics RAM (SGRAM) to its graphics card customers who include market leader Diamond. Eurom general manager James Ward said cards with 8Mb SGRAM will ship by the end of this year.

Eurom can be contacted by telephone on 01604-859326.
