The Tasmanian National Broadband Network Company has started work on constructing the Midway Point fibre link in the state.

in brief The Tasmanian National Broadband Network Company has started work on constructing the Midway Point fibre link in the state.

The link will be constructed by local contractor Nu Energy and national contractor John Holland, with assistance from Marais Lucas, an Australian joint venture which provides mechanised trenching technology for building telco and energy links, according to a statement issued today by the Tasmanian premier and Federal Communications Minister Stephen Conroy.

The project will involve constructing a 7km fibre link between an Aurora Energy datacentre in Cambridge, a township 14km east of Hobart and Midway Point, a suburb of Hobart.

It appears as if Marais Lucas is providing a Cleanfast vehicle to assist with the trench construction and vacuuming of waste material. Photos and information about the vehicle can be found at the company's parent site.
