Tavolo gets funding, publishing deal

Food site Tavolo.com has raised $36 million in a round of venture capital funding led by Van Wagoner Capital. The company also announced an alliance with American Express Publishing to become the exclusive specialty food and cookware online retailer for Food & Wine's Connoisseur Club. As part of the deal, Tavolo will have access to Food & Wine's content and recipes and will work with the magazine on co-branded events and special offers. Tavolo will also advertise in the magazine, as well as in American Express' Travel & Leisure and Departures. -- Margaret Kane, ZDNet News
