In TEDxSydney's third year, the conference will look to shine a light on the cream of Australia's scientific crop, with an impressive list of speakers announced yesterday.
Professor Michelle Simmons of the single atom transistor project will speak at TEDxSydney this year
The conference, set to be held in late May at Carriageworks in Sydney, aims to bring thought leaders in to present and share new and inspiring ideas around technology, entertainment and design — hence the TED name.
This year's speaker list includes the head of National ICT Australia, professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte. The professor is set to draw on his experience as an engineer to talk about robotics.
Another guest includes Australian expert on quantum computing, professor Michelle Simmons. Simmons is the director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology.
Simmons' most recent achievement includes spearheading a project that saw a transistor built successfully out of a single atom.
Other guests include entertainers like Tim Freedman of The Whitlams fame, Katie Noonan and the FourPlay String Quartet.
