The Telekom Austria Group has launched an international data roaming service that provides mobile broadband at a flat rate of 59 euro cents per megabyte.

The operator unveiled the Abroadband service on Tuesday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Abroadband is available in all 27 EU countries, but Telekom Austria said in a statement that the idea is to sell it in 53 countries around the world.

"With Abroadband we are enabling both business and leisure travelers to be online for the first time at a standard and cheap tariff worldwide," Telekom Austria chief Hannes Ametsreiter said in the statement.

Customers can buy a €19.90 data SIM or micro-SIM card or a €49.90 USB modem box — Telekom Austria intends to sell them at airports and travel expos, as well as via a dedicated website and partner stores — and set up an online account using PayPal or a credit card. There is no minimum contract term or monthly fee.

According to Telekom Austria, Abroadband also comes with a real-time cost manager, so users can keep an eye on how much they are spending. The company has arranged deals with 77 mobile operators around the world, and said in its statement that the service would provide speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.
