AUSTRALIA (ZDNet Australia)-- Telstra BigPond telephone support lines are choked with calls from disgruntled customers following an outage that has disabled the telco's mail server.
Chaos has swamped the telephone helpdesk, with the level of congestion preventing many customers from getting through to technical support at all, with others being placed in long queues.
A recorded message tells customers that "normal services expect to resume shortly".
"There's a huge problem with our mail server," a source told ZDNet.
"It was unscheduled, they [Telstra] weren't expecting it and it all went sour."
BigPond home and business customers will experience authentication errors when attempting to log on to the telco's Internet service, according to the telstra.com service status page.
Furthermore, the Bigpond mail service is "currently experiencing intermittent delays in processing incoming and outgoing messages".
