Telstra pushes network services into Indonesia with joint venture
Australia's largest telecommunications company Telstra and Telekom Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding for a new joint venture for network applications and services (NAS) in South East Asia.
The joint venture was a strategic decision by Telstra, after discussions with Telekom Indonesia were underway for more than a year. The joint venture would allow Telstra to enter the South East Asia market, and leverage Telekom Indonesia's existing customer base.
"Our plan is to provide enhanced consistency of services for companies connecting with Indonesia and operating in the region," Telstra's head of global enterprise and services, Brendon Riley said in a statement..
"We are looking forward to partnering with Telkom Indonesia, a well respected market leader which has a large enterprise and government customer base and the broadest reach of domestic connectivity in Indonesia."
Telekom Indonesia chief strategy officer Pak Indra Utoyo said that the partnership would bring with it Telstra's Network Applications and Services offerings to the local Indonesian market.
"The NAS solutions and IDN networks are a powerful combination to differentiate our solutions and services in the market to support businesses in Indonesia to be more agile, productive and secure," he said in a statement.
Riley said that as Telstra expands in Asia, the company will have both local Telstra entities and partnerships with local companies.
Earlier this week, Telstra announced it had acquired Melbourne-based network integrator O2 Networks, in a deal estimated to be worth AU$60 million.
