Telstra is threatening legal action against the individuals behind a wave of malware infiltrating BigPond customers' personal computers and swamping the Internet service provider's network with excess traffic.

An online post by a BigPond representative on broadband information site Whirlpool late yesterday afternoon highlighted the move.

The post stated: "Telstra Corporate Security also is assisting with a view to taking legal action against identified perpetrators." A Telstra spokesperson confirmed the statement referred to those behind the malware epidemic.

Other information in the post reflected a statement that Telstra issued to ZDNet Australia  yesterday afternoon. However Telstra did not disclose to ZDNet Australia  at that time that any legal action was proposed.
