Teradata acquires Hadoop consulting firm Think Big Analytics

The deal marks Teradata's third acquisition in six weeks, as well as the continuation of its mission to meld data warehouses and big data.

Teradata announced that it has acquired Think Big Analytics, a Silicon Valley-based consulting firm focused primarily on Hadoop. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal marks Teradata's third company purchase in six weeks, following the acquisitions of Revelytix and Hadapt in late July. The data warehouse software and hardware provider appears to have a similar goal in mind by buying up the three companies: embrace Hadoop and other big data technologies in order to provide a bridge to its data warehouse systems.

More specifically with the Think Big buy, Teradata said it plans to integrate the company's consulting practice, which offers big data services such assessments, planning and architecture mapping, with its own big data consulting outfit in the Americas. Think Big's management team will remain intact at the company's Mountain View, California office.

Ron Bodkin, founder and CEO of Think Big, said the combined companies will enable customers to drive analytic value from diverse data sets by leveraging new, open source technologies alongside existing, proven technologies.

"We're excited to take the next step in our journey to build the premier big data solution services organization," added Rick Farnell, co-founder and president of Think Big. "Combining industry-leading Hadoop and data science expertise with the industry's leading platform for data analytics is a tremendous opportunity for our clients to innovate and realize game- changing value."
