Teradata rolls out platform updates designed to connect Hadoop ecosystem

The data-warehousing provider introduced the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800, expanded Teradata QueryGrid integrations, and an enhancement to the Teradata database.

Teradata dropped a bevy of platform announcements Monday as the company hosts its Universe Conference in Amsterdam.

The data-warehousing provider introduced the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2800, expanded Teradata QueryGrid technologies, and an enhancement to the Teradata database.

With the new data warehouse appliance, Teradata is promising faster in-memory processing, which would enable organizations to double their data capacity and analytic power.

On the database front, Teradata said the new software-defined warehouse enables organizations to consolidate multiple data warehouses into one system without shorting on security or service level performance.

The company's database also got a new feature called Secure Zones, which Teradata said helps restrict the movement of personally identifiable information and the co-location of data from multiple business entities or countries within a single data warehouse.

"Today, many organizations maintain multiple, separate data warehouses to meet unique business unit requirements or to comply with data privacy regulations across countries," said Herman Wimmer, co-president of Teradata and head of the company's data and analytics division

As for the expansion of QueryGrid, Teradata's data processing engine, the company is trying to offer customers greater choice of Hadoop distributions, more flexible architecture and analytic extensibility. To that end, Teradata has integrated QueryGrid with the Hadoop distros of MapR and Cloudera. In addition, QueryGrid for Teradata-to-Teradata, Aster-to-Cloudera and Teradata-to-Hortonworks were also made available globally.
