This sector may not be "sexy," but it sure is hot

The VoIP testing market isn't exactly the sexiest sector in the IP telephony industry. Without testing tools, though, VoIP service providers would have to build and maintain their offerings via guesswork.

Which is why Unstrung's report of adeal for Finnish test vendor NetHawk Oyj topay $26 million forTexas-based ipNetFusion is such a big deal.

NetHawk makes test equipment for mobile network equipment vendors and service providers. With the addition of ipNetFusion, NetHawk adds VoIP testing capability and acquires a major North American presence.

With this extra capability, NetHawk CEO Hannu Huttunen believes his company can compete more aggressively against test and measurement giants such as Tektronix Inc. and Agilent Technologies.

Tektronix (whose world headquarters is just down the street from me) boosted their ownest and measurement presence last June. Just in case you missed it, they paid a cool $325 million for wireline carrier network testing and measurement firm Inet.

Do you do any testing on your IP? If so, what tools and procedures do you use? Post a TalkBack.
