Toshiba is also introducing the Portégé R700 today, which the manufacturer dubs as the "world’s lightest" 13.3-inch full-performance laptop. For the record, the base version of this ultra-portable laptop weighs three pounds.

The Portégé R700 is built for being taken on the road, so Toshiba has integrated a hard drive impact sensor and a spill-resistant keyboard for anyone who might be a bit clumsy. The one-inch thin machine also has a new cooling system to maximize battery life and performance.

Intended for the professional-minded buyer, customers have three configurations to choose from. Each one includes:

  • 13.3-inch LED-backlit HD widescreen display
  • Windows 7 Professional OS
  • 4GB of DDR3 memory
  • Integrated DVD drive
  • Tile-raised keyboard
  • ExpressCard slot
  • eSATA/USB combo port
  • Six-cell battery (Lasts up to 8.5 hours after full charge)
  • Three-year international limited warranty

Pricing ranges from $999 to $1,599, with Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor options, and the choice of a 320/500GB hard drive or a 128GB SSD.

For anyone interested in a more budget-minded, stripped-down version, there is the Portégé R705 consumer edition. For $899, you'll get an Core i3-powered machine with a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM. Don't expect an ExpressCard slot or docking support on this one.

The Portégé R700 series is available now, and the Portégé R705 will be sold via Best Buy starting June 27.
