Travel Tech Q&A: AAPT's David Yuile

Every executive has his nightmare travel story, which AAPT chief operating officer David Yuile shares with us.

What tech do you travel with?

David Yuile: It's a long list but here goes: I have a Toshiba laptop Portege R600 (it's super light and has flash disk storage), a Google Nexus One (it's fantastic that the Wi-Fi tethering is built-in) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab (it's handy as an e-reader and for watching movies).

What tech do you love abroad, where and why?

The Shenzhen tech market. It has floors of tech. You can buy anything from a memory chip or batteries to laptops, phones and every accessory in every colour of finish you could ever imagine.

What's your favourite phone app and why?

Gmail because it's so simple, so intuitive and continues to improve.

How do you deal with jet lag?

I always try to re-adjust on day one.

What was your biggest travel disaster?

Assuming I would easily get a hotel on landing in Helsinki, I unfortunately found on arrival that there was a huge festival on and stayed the night in a dormitory at the Youth Hostel.

What is the best airport you've visited and why?

Changi at Singapore, as everything works and you can be at a meeting down town 30 to 40 minutes after touchdown.

What was your last tech purchase? Why did you buy it?

Samsung Galaxy S phone, because the screen was so amazing. Shame, however, that the battery life was so bad it became unusable.

Where is the best place you've been for duty free tech shopping?

Heathrow, for selection.
