Antivirus vendor Trend Micro Inc. has joined forces with Taiwan Telecommunications Network Services Co. Ltd. (TTN), Taiwan's third-largest ISP, to protect TTN customers from the threat of Internet-borne viruses.

TAIPEI - Through this alliance, TTN will offer its dial-up, broadband and lease-line Internet subscribers an optional virus scanning and cleaning service for their e-mail messages and user mailboxes, using Trend Micro's antivirus technology.

TTN's Virus Protected E-mail (VPE) service, a proprietary solution based on Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall technology, scans e-mail messages, attachments and user mailboxes at the service provider's network operations center.

Infected files are flagged forwarded to the recipient. Customers who subscribe to the virus service and pay the monthly fee will be entitled to virus cleaning as well as detection. In most cases, the virus will be removed and the clean file passed on to the recipient.

TTN is a subsidiary of PCCW-HKT, the Hong Kong-listed flagship of the Pacific Century group.
