Ahead of its public offering, Twitter has poached another executive from Google -- this time an advertising specialist to head up its retail division.
As reported by Bloomberg, J.J. Hirschle, a former advertising executive at the search engine giant, will start working for Twitter on October 28 as head of the retail division. On the same day, Twitter is expected to launch its investor roadshow to generate hype before the company's initial public offering takes place in mid-November.
J.J. Hirschle, a director of media and entertainment advertising at Google, will now be responsible for selling advertising products to retail firms, Twitter spokesman Will Stickney said.
Twitter has a history of hiring Googlers, including sales executive Jennifer Prince, Aliza Knox, Asia-based executive Shailesh Rao and agency relationship manager Matt Derella.
The San Francisco-based firm's IPO is highly anticipated, and the company hopes to raise $1 billion by going public. In an S-1 filing, Twitter claimed it now has, on average, more than 218 million active users per month -- but growth rates in the U.S., where most revenue is generated, is slowing down -- and a boost in capital could give the firm extra momentum in securing new users and revenue streams.
Twitter may be a household name, and revenue rates are increasing quickly, but the firm is yet to generate profit. In the filing, the company revealed annual revenues of $316.9 million.
Roughly 2,000 people work at the microblogging site full-time.
