UK mobile phone companies will cope with Christmas frenzy

The big four mobile phone operators promised Wednesday that networks will cope with Christmas demand

It is expected that four million mobile phones will be sold in the UK over the festive season, putting pressure on all mobile networks. In October, director general of Oftel David Edmonds demanded to see the plans operators had to cope with the rush, following collapsed networks last year. Oftel received a huge amount of complaints from people unable to activate their new phones.

Edmonds hopes it will be a happier mobile Christmas this year. "I am pleased that the mobile operators are taking the matter very seriously. All four companies have given me strong assurances that they will be able to cope," he said in a statement.
