Today, Google rolled out some new features that update the most sacred and least played with asset of the company -- their look and the results you get back when you really want to find information.

For years, Google has secretly been trying experimental designs that required a special cookie to see, but it looks like they have finally settled on one that they (and I) like. Does this mean the experiments are over? Not at all! The only difference is that now you can use them through Google Experimental -- a showcase for the tests they are constantly running.

Not only has the company found a fresh new appearance though, they have also changed the way we find things with something they call Universal Search. Universal Search is a technology that merges (and sorts by relevance) results from many Google properties including Google Books, Google Video, and more.

What do you think of the new look and results? Feel free to disagree, but I think they are heading down exactly the right path. The reason I like Google is because they are never satisfied with their own search engine -- it's hard for another company to step up and outshine them because Google is constantly competing with and outshining themselves.
