VeriSign released its second quarter 2007 Domain Name Industry Brief. Global registered domain names totaled more than 138 million, a 31 percent increase over the same quarter in 2006 and an eight percent increase over the first quarter of this year. Most of the growth is in country code top-level domains (ccTLD), especially in in China (.cn), Russia (.ru) and South Korea (.kr). It's a very nicely growing business for the Internet ecosystem, especially for the 840 .com and .net domain name registrars around the world.

During peek times, VeriSign said it has been processing about 30 billion DNS queries per day. VeriSign determined that 88 percent of .com and .net domain names resolve to a live or parked (one-page only) Web site.
