Telepresence company Vidyo announced on Thursday that it has appointed two veterans of HP's Visual Collaboration group to roles focusing on driving sales and delivery of the company's video conferencing technology.

Jim Fairweather takes a newly created position, vice president of worldwide channels, and Mark Reid takes the company's senior director of engineering role. Both are also veterans of Polycom.

"The video conferencing market has matured; customers today are sophisticated and no longer willing to settle for expensive, inflexible, hard to use, legacy-based hardware systems,” Video chief executive Ofer Shapiro said in a statement.

Shapiro's hoping that both will help expand Vidyo's presence and take a piece of the robust partner network HP (and Cisco, for that matter) enjoys.

Vidyo's claim to fame is that its high-definition, multipoint business video conferencing offering smooths out the technical wrinkles of through a proprietary architecture and video compression standard called H.264 Scalable Video Coding that it says is light on the network without suffering from latency jitters.

With the increasing popularity of mobile devices in the office and at home, it's a growing opportunity.
