Flight-travel, for many, of us has come to mean one thing: waiting. Waiting in line at security, waiting for the flight to board, waiting during a lay-over. Virgin Atlantic, though not cutting out waiting time, has given some of its passengers flying through New York a more comfortable and stylish way to spend their in-between time.

On Monday, Virgin opened their new Clubhouse in John F. Kennedy airport. Essentially a high-end waiting-room for Virgin's first-class and Flying Club Gold members, Virgin's Clubhouses also serve drinks and food and a few even have spas.

Designed by James and Hayes Slade of Slade Architecture, the 10,000 square foot space features a long, curving bar, mod-seating (like the custom-built, oversized bright red ball sofa), and a maple wood and burgundy billiard table.

As a result of the new Clubhouse, JFK has joined the ranks of Heathrow and Gatwick in London to become America's first airport with a salon and spa, opened within the Virgin Clubhouse by Bumble and Bumble.

Following a few major terminal upgrades at JFK in the past few years, the Virgin Clubhouse adds to the airport's new-found shine.
