Those looking for some more downward pricing pressure on Blu-ray players were anticipating Vizio's debut entry into the market, the VBR100, which was first announced at CES in January. The company, known for producing solidly performing HDTVs offered at value price points, had said at the time that it was planning to release the VBR100 in April. With the calendar turning to May and with no sign of the device shipping, Engadget HD decided to find out what happened to that release date.

The result? The VBR100 is now expected around the August time frame. There haven't been any changes made to the product so it's a bit of a mystery as to why the player has been in limbo. With second-tier Blu-ray players selling for less than the VBR100's announced price of $199.99, hopefully Vizio will reconsider its pricing so that it will be selling for $149 or less come the holiday season.
