VMware on Monday acquired Shavlik Technologies in a move that is aimed at targeting small and mid-sized businesses using IT management software.
Shavlik offers IT portfolio management software on premise and as a service. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
The two companies were already partners on VMware Go, a joint offering for SMBs looking to deploy VMware.
In a statement, VMware said it will be able to provide management services for SMBs including:
- Centralized IT management;
- Deployment and automation services;
- Automated IT management.
In the large enterprise business, VMware has been moving up the software stack in an effort to manage datacenters and hybrid cloud environments. With the Shavlik purchase it looks like it is trying a similar playbook.
