Vocus acquires E3 datacentres

Voice and data network operator Vocus has purchased the Sydney and Melbourne arms of E3 Networks' datacentre business.

At a total value of $5.9 million, the acquisition will see Vocus assume responsibility for datacentre facilities that cater for 120 different telcos and internet service providers.

The acquisition is set to merge E3's Sydney and Melbourne staff into Vocus' Datacentre Division. E3 founder and CEO Jon Eaves is set to head up the Datacentre Division post-acquisition.

Chief executive officer of Vocus, James Spenceley, believes that this acquisition, coupled with Eaves' leadership, will open doors to greater expansion in the Australian datacentre environment.

"E3 and Jon Eaves have a great reputation for building and operating datacentres and the combination will attract new customers for both datacentre space and our core wholesale telecommunications products," Spenceley said.

The deal will see Vocus acquire two recently constructed datacentres with an extra 400 square metres of space within the Sydney datacentre set for completion within the next two months.
