As customers top 165 million

Vodafone has announced several new appointments to its board, the day after it released KPIs (key performance indicators) showing it has now notched up some 165 million customers globally.

Among the new additions to the board are Andrew Halford, the company's incoming CFO, and Philip Yea, CEO of venture capital firm 3i, who becomes a non-executive director.

Lord MacLaurin, Vodafone chairman, said Yea's financial and strategic skills will be of benefit to the board.

Yea will now be advising a company which has reported 35 per cent year-on-year growth in customer numbers for the second quarter and nearly nine per cent revenue growth.

The operator is also seeing a gradual uptake in its 3G offering. Vodafone has added 1.1 million new 3G devices over the quarter, taking the total number of third-generation users to 3.3 million.
