Incoming FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin will have a lot to say about VoIP regulation - or lack thereof.

So far, the VoIP community seems to be somewhat upbeat. Can't really tell if the sentiments are more out of courtesy or a sense of ideological compatibility - but they do sound sincere.

Here's a round-up:

Rich Tehrani, TMCnet.com presient and publisher:

"What will define Commissioner Martin's tenure as Chairman is how carefully he balances the needs of incumbent and competitive service providers, while taking into account what is best for today's consumer and tomorrow's competitive landscape. The Voice-over-IP (VoIP) industry hopes that Mr. Martin will continue the VoIP stance the commission has espoused for the past few years."

Jeff Pulver, VoIP entrepreneur and pioneer:

"While being Chairman requires a different skill set than being a Commissioner, Im confident that, Kevin Martin will prove to be a savvy, politically astute Chairman with the ability to hammer out difference and find common ground."

Martha Buyer, telecommunications lawyer, as quoted on Al Bredenberg's VoIP and CRM Blog:

"I remain optimistic about Commissioner Martin's ability to consider all opposing positions before making decisions. His dealmaking skills will no doubt come in handy as he assumes this new role in this very challenging time in the industry."

That's what they think about Mr. Martin. What do you think? Post a TalkBack.
