VoIP solution for Africa wins award

I've just read a list of the Wireless Innovation Contest 2005. The awards, which were announced today at the CTIA wireless show in New Orleans, are sponsored by the Wireless Innovation Network of BritishColumbia(WINBC) and the Network for Emerging Wireless Technologies (NEWT).

The description of the Community award winner is especially compelling:

"VCom Inc.: A 600 MHz Broadband Wireless Solution deployed in rural areas of Africa to provide cost-effective access to broadband Internet, as well as VoIP and telephone services, to accelerate economic development."

The company is based in Saskatoon, Sasketchwan. Here's more info about their broadband wireless initiatives for rural areas.
