VUDU: Day and date releases? Yeah, we've got that.

Remember on Thursday when Apple announced that "Day and Date" movie sales and rentals would available on iTunes (and Apple TV) on the same day as they're released on DVD? Well, it turns out that that may not be that big of a deal.

According to an email I received from the PR agency that handles VUDU (an Apple TV competitor) day and date movie releases are an "industry practice."

...we are seeing some confusion out there about this Apple announcement concerning Day and Date release.  This is an industry practice – has been for years.  I'm writing to you on behalf of VUDU so I'll use them as an example but this is true of all the online services.  When movies go to DVD, they are released for online purchase.  Then about 30 days later the VOD or rental window opens.  What Warner announced yesterday with offering rental, day and date with the DVD release is something VUDU has been getting from them since day one and it's great to see this be an ongoing policy.
