Western Australia's Department of Health has decided to implement Australian e-health company iSOFT's patient administration system and is in the throes of finalising a five-year support deal with the supplier.

WA Health will upgrade its older TOPAS system (The Open Patient Administration System) to iSOFT's Patient Manager and will pay a $1.5 million licence fee for the software. Subject to final approval, iSOFT (formerly IBA Health) will also deliver implementation and support services worth $15.4 million over five years.

Around 6000 users will access the system for administrative services such as patient registration and referral, waiting list management and bookings as well as inpatient attendances and outpatient scheduling, according to iSOFT.

If the department decides to implement the system over its around 68 rural sites, iSOFT could net itself an additional $3.5 million for services.

WA Health already uses iSOFT's i.Clinical Manager and i.Pharmacy over 13 sites.

"This deal demonstrates iSOFT's success in transitioning large existing clients to our latest technologies," iSOFT Australia managing director Denis Tebbutt said in a statement. "Introducing complementary new solutions to create a seamless electronic patient record is a key part of our strategy to strengthen iSOFT's global footprint."
