The Green Grid Technical Committee is getting set to release more technical information this week aimed at helping IT managers get a better handle on their energy use. The information will be debated during the Green Technical Forum and members' meeting Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 in San Francisco.

Among the materials that will be discussed during the conference include a presentation called "Addressing Organizational Barriers to Managing Efficiency," on how to bridge the gap between IT and facilities management and incent/encourage both sides to participate in corporate power management strategies. The group will also release a Baseline Efficiency Market Study, which reviews data center power metrics and best practices already being put into practice; a peer review of a study from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory that focuses on High Voltage Direct Current in the Data Center, and a paper outlining Five Ways to Save Server Power.

John Tuccillo, a Green Grid director, said the organization now represents 150 members. One of the latest members is the Distributed Management Taskforce, which will collaborate with the Green Grid on interoperable management standards that allow companies to monitor and measure their power consumption across both IT and non-IT equipment.

At least some of the content should be posted post-conference and available to members of the general public. Meanwhile, here's a link to some of its existing technical white papers, including an update to its original paper on Green Grid Metrics and a qualitative analysis of seven different power distribution configurations.
