The Museum of Sex, with curated exhibits at its flagship Fifth Avenue museum in Manhattan, launched a Web 2.0 social tagging and rating site, the MoSexIndex (beta 1.0), described as "a community-driven web site that lists the best sex sites on the web, as determined by its community of users (not a small group of editors)":

The MoSexIndex uses the feedback of an entire online community to find and filter the best sex sites the Internet has to offer. Users like you post sites they like or think are cool, and rate sites submitted by others. Sites are given a score. The best sites for each category rise to the top of the homepage, on a continual, real-time basis.

The rollout of a participatory Website follows The Museum of Sex rollout of its Virtual Museum of Sex, which features four inaugural exhibits showing online, including "US Patent Office Sex Inventions."

While The Virtual Museum Of Sex retains the advertsing-free nature of its parent offline cultural institution, the community-driven online offshoot aims to be ad supported via a text ad network.
