Internet service provider Westnet will spend the next six months rolling out ADSL2+ to regional New South Wales and Western Australia following a $5 million commitment towards servicing regional customers.

WA residents in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Bluff Point and Katanning will have their local infrastructure beefed up, while NSW residents in the Hunter, North Coast and South Coast areas can expect the same.

Queensland and Victoria are also to experience an upgrade. The suburbs of Robina, Edison, Southport, Arundel, Merrimac, Mudgeeraba, Narangba, Nerang, Buderim, Middle Ridge, Surfers Paradise, Caboolture, Maroochydore, Gulliver and Coombabah will benefit from the ADSL2+ roll-out in the sunshine state, while Newport, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Craigieburn, Ballarat, Moe and Shepparton will enjoy new services in Victoria.

Michael Malone, CEO of Westnet and managing director of its parent iiNet, said that the company wants to introduce "real competition" into the regional broadband market.

"We want to bring the benefits of super-fast broadband to as many homes and businesses as we can. This year we will build more than double the capacity of what we delivered last year and offer plans at more competitive prices than ever before," Malone said today in a statement.
