What the scores mean

Value: Weighs the overall merits of the product versus its price relative to other portable network testers. We look for the portable network tester that delivers the best value for the money.

Value: Weighs the overall merits of the product versus its price relative to other portable network testers. We look for the portable network tester that delivers the best value for the money.

Performance: Gauges the overall performance of the network tester including how quickly the unit powers up, how long it takes to diagnose problems and find servers, and how the battery performs in a real-world test environment.

Ease of use: Rates how easy the product is to use relative to other network testing units. The score is based on the ease of accomplishing network and cable testing and problem diagnosis.

Documentation: Rates the supplied documentation for readability, relevance, and organization. Of particular importance is the inclusion, or lack, of a quick start guide and a detailed user's manual.

Design: Evaluates the physical design of the product, especially the size, weight, and display characteristics.
