I watched the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures a few weeks ago, and very entertaining it was too, a new TV genre called “Theatrical Physics” I believe.
But now I can’t watch it any more, because why exactly? The official explanation is:
“…certain programming, is subject to rights restrictions.”
I wouldn’t mind so much but the lectures aren’t available on DVD, nor officially on Youtube.
So I turned to the Free Softwarecommunity and came across get_iplayer. However, the original author has ceased development because of the BBC’s lack of support for Open Source and open standards.
If we have paid for the content, why are we unable to access it?
