Wi-Fi unit shipments to increase 20% in 2004

Access Point unit shipments reached 4.75 mln units in Q2 2004, an increase of 7% from Q1 2004. The 802.11g AP market continued to grow, increasing 15% from Q1 2004. Wi-Fi media adapters also showed strong growth. Introduced in 2003, media adapters enable a user to play music or show photos stored on a personal computer on a stereo or television without using cables. Total Wi-Fi unit shipments are projected to show a 20% gain from 2003. Strong competition in the consumer segment will continue to erode average selling prices, reducing overall revenue growth.
