But let's not have any more tiebreakers involving robot parrots and WAP-enabled barbecues this time around...

Next week silicon.com launches its second gadget giveaway competition, so we thought we'd give you some clues about how to win one of the host of phones and phone-related gadgets we're giving away. We had an unprecedented level of interest in our Christmas competition to win a flat-screen television or a Palm handheld computer, and here, to point you in the right direction for the next competition, are a selection of the best, and the worst, tie-breakers. We asked you to tell us what the ultimate gadget would be. A lot of people designed personal transporters, inspired perhaps by Ginger (http://www.silicon.com/a49695 ). Others suggested a mobile phone blocker, a universal translator, or a telepathic input device. Lots of people wanted a combined phone, video, CD player, computer, payment device and lunch box the size of a credit card. More reasonable people wanted just to have a new device to help them manage all their others gizmos. Toasters were unaccountably popular. We liked the idea of cordless one for beach use. We also liked the combined barbeque and WAP phone - so you can "fry your meat and fry your brain at the same time". Another innovation that deserves to be shared with a wider audience is the robot parrot that perches on your shoulder and looks after you when you are drunk. But finally special mention goes to the person who asked for a razor-sharp 'hype detector'. We'd send him ours but we can't work out how to turn it on.
