Embedded Linux manufacturer Lineo has taken the wraps off a PDA software solution allowing Windows CE applications to function on an embedded Linux platform.
Embedix PDA is a Windows CE compatible software layer that runs on top of the Lineo Embedded Linux platform.
CEO of Lineo, Bryan Sparks issued a statement: "Although Microsoft has not captured a majority position in the embedded market, it has encouraged a large number of companies to develop applications for the Windows CE platform. We believe that OEMs of Windows CE solutions will be enticed to migrate to Lineo Embedix which we believe to be s more stable, lower cost OS base for PDA's and other devices running Windows CE devices."
Embedix PDA is scheduled for released in the first half of 2001.
Lineo will demonstrate the new technology at the LinuxWorld Expo in New York which begins on February 2.
